A small aircraft has made a emergency landing on the beach in the area of Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island. One casualty on the ground has been confirmed. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is on site providing security for the scene.

An experimental Lancair Four-P single engine plane was headed from Orlando to Virginia when it apparently lost its propeller at about 13,000 feet.  Oil covered the windshield and the plane went down.  Two people were on board but they were not hurt.

The plane went down around 6 p.m. The investigation will be assumed by federal authorities (National Traffic Safety Board), who are en route.
