I had the honor to be part of a great program Wednesday afternoon.  I was asked to put together a video and present awards at the Greater Savannah Sports Council's Award Luncheon.  Now, those who know me know that I never turn down a free meal (it was not just free...it was good)  I jumped at the opportunity.  The Sports Council is responsible for promoting sports here in Savannah...perfect fit for me because I like promoting local sports!

The banquet was fun.  With the hard work of WJCL/Fox 28's creative service folks....we were able to put together an amazing Top Ten Stories video.  I introduced stories with the help of Coastie.  The top story was the Calvary Girls basketball team winning their first state championship.  The Lady Cavs were in the house cause they also recevied one of two Generations Awards given to athletes who excelled in 2007.  Benedictine senior Ryan Gregory also won.  He won the GHSA Class AAA state title in wrestling in the 160 pound division.

The Sports Council also awarded Robert Espinoza with the John F. Hodges OASIS Award.  That's given to an individual who has rendered outstanding achievement in sports here in Savannah.  Espinoza is the owner of Fleet Feet Sports and he's been instrumental in the growth of running here in the coastal empire.

Again, it was an honor to be included in this years luncheon.  Just being asked tells me that folks appreciate the local coverage we're giving local athletes.  It's hard to believe that eating lunch with good folks is work.....I love my job!
