McIntosh County Sheriff Stephen Jessup is now confirming the official cause of death for a teen found dead in the woods on Monday.
Jessup says the initial report from the GBI crime lab shows that Daniel Gale, 15, died from environmental hypothermia with drowning.
On Sunday, Gale and his stepfather went scouting for turkeys in Buffalo Swamp when their GPS died. While trying to find their way out of the woods, Daniel became exhausted and disoriented.
His stepfather left Daniel behind to go find help. The stepfather eventually found his way out of the woods after nearly ten hours.
After an extensive search, rescue crews found Daniel's body face-down in shallow water.
