POOLER--Good news for a dog abused by her previous owner.  "Snickers" has officially been taken in by a new loving family.

In late-December, Metro police say the dog's original owner shot her two times.

"She's just a blessing," stated Ashley Gilbert, the dog’s new owner.

You can say it was love at first sight when Gilbert and her family laid eyes on their new furry little friend.

"Her eyes were incredible.  She was just very loving, and you can tell she was a sweetheart of a dog," stated Gilbert.

Adopted from Coastal Pet Rescue, the Schnauzer-Terrier mix was taken from her previous owner, John Victor, after police say he shot Snickers several times for simply barking.

"It's just surprising somebody would do that kind of thing to her,” stated Gilbert.

Especially when Gilbert says her barking doesn't seem to be a problem at all--at least in her home.

"The only time she barks is when someone comes to the door or the doorbell rings," stated Gilbert.

Now with a loving family, Snickers is living the high life of sorts.

"She loves attention, loves walks,” stated Gilbert.   "She's very spry and frisky for a 7-year-old dog.  You'd be surprised."

And given her calm demeanor, Gilbert says you couldn't tell she was ever even abused.

"She's kind as can be," stated Gilbert.  "We haven't been disappointed at all."

Snicker's previous owner, John Victor, has a preliminary hearing scheduled in court for April 21st.  He's charged with animal cruelty.
