Arrest Made in Ardsley Park Shooting Metro Police

July 3, 2008

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police have arrested one man and are seeking a second in connection with a shooting early last Saturday morning, that left two local musicians with serious injuries. Police have arrested 18-year-old Ashamir Donshaye Johnson of Savannah and charged him with two counts of Aggravated Battery and one count of Armed Robbery.  They have now turned their attention to locating 21-year-old Desmond Antonio Hunter, also of Savannah, who is still at large.

“This is one of those cases we would have had great difficulty solving without key information from the public”, said Metro Police Chief Michael Berkow.  “The citizens of Savannah came through again. The combination of dogged police work and CrimeStoppers resulted in police cracking this case, identifying the suspects, and putting one behind bars. All we need now is to locate Desmond Hunter.”

Police, acting on a CrimeStoppers tip, obtained a warrant for an East 39th street address, and Johnson was arrested a short time later without incident.  Additional information gleaned from the investigation, led police to their second suspect, Desmond Hunter.

Police conducted a search late in the day for Hunter, but it appears he is on the run.  Hunter is a black male, stands 6’1” and weights approximately 160 pounds.  He may currently be wearing his hair in short twists.  Police consider Hunter armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Desmond Hunter is urged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 912-651-6728 or CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020.
