World War II Veteran Gets Long Overdue Medal by Jenifer Andrews

July 4, 2008

Someone from World War Two made an appearance at Fort Stewart today. The Townsend man is a Retired Major.

Major Harold Hicks received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal during a ceremony on post. Major General Rick Lynch presented the medal, calling it an honor to present the 90 year old veteran the award.

Hicks was supposed to get the medal more than 60 years ago, but says it was worth the wait to share it with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dozens of soldiers celebrated with major hicks and his family.
