Georgia Power crews worked hard to restore power after a bout of severe weather rolled across our area Saturday afternoon in downtown Savannah. Heavy flooding was also reported and cars were abandoned on the side of the roads.
At least 20,000 people were without power at the height of the storm. Numerous traffic lights were reported out mostly between the areas of Forsyth Park all the way to Mall Blvd on Abercorn St.
Two substations were heavily damaged, one of those was at 52nd street.
A Georgia Power spokesperson says most, if not all customers, should have power back on by 6 a.m. Sunday morning. She says most of the damage is from downed power lines and trees on lines.
