Actions Taken by the Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors by The Coastal Source

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors held its meeting on Wednesday, September 3, 2008.


The Board held 34 appearances for applicants who requested that the Board reconsider the denial of their licenses. The Board overturned the denials of 11 applications for licensure, upheld the denials of eight applications for licensure and tabled ten applications for further review.  Five applicants did not attend their scheduled appearances.


The Board voted to ratify 238 residential basic licenses, 141 residential light licenses and 148 general contractor licenses. The Board also voted to deny five residential basic contractor licenses and four general contractor licenses.


The Board voted to accept the following Public Consent Orders for probationary licensure:

  • James Larry Bolin, Powder Springs.

  • Jim E. Carroll, Lyons.

  • Randall Tharp, Cumming.



The Board voted to repost the following rule:

  • Rule 553-7-.02, Written Warranty for General Contractor: Defines written warranties and outlines the items that should be included in a warranty.


The Board voted to post the following rules:

  • Rule 553-11, Changes in Status Which Must Be Reported: Gives licensees directions for statuses which must be reported to the board, such as change of name and address. Also clarifies the action licensees should take in the event the qualifying agent leaves the licensed company.

  • Rule 553-9-.01, Failure to Maintain General Liability Insurance: Requires licensees to maintain general liability insurance and states that failure to maintain general liability insurance may result in disciplinary action by the Board.

 
The Board voted to adopt the following rule:

  • Rule 553-10-.01, Inactive License: Allows for an Inactive License status and gives direction as to how a license may be made inactive.

 

The Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors will hold its next meeting Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards Division in Macon, Georgia.
