Metro Police are searching for a man who shot and killed a Southside store clerk and injured another employee during an attempted robbery early Saturday. The suspect is described as a black male in his teens with an average height and weight. He was dressed in all black and carrying a black handgun. He was last seen running northeast out of the parking lot.
Officers responded to the BP service station at Skidaway Road and Eisenhower Drive around 12:10 a.m. for a report of a shooting.
Jatinkumar "Justin" Patel and Prakashkuma "KP" Pansuria had just closed the store and walked out when a man with a gun approached. He attempted to rob the clerks before opening fire.
The suspect fired several times, striking the employees. Patel, 42, of Savannah, died at the scene. Pansuria, 24, of Savannah, was taken to Memorial University Medical Center with a gunshot wound. A third employee was in the store and not injured. Nothing was taken during the robbery.
Police canvassed the area with K-9s and a helicopter, but did not locate the gunman. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 651-6728; or call CrimeStoppers.
