WJCL Morning Anchor Jessica Kiss with Stephanie Duke of Halo Models in May 2009 (TheCoastalSource.com)
(Savannah, GA)- Guys and gals ages 13 to 25 who are contemplating becoming a career or part-time model should be in downtown Savannah this Friday, May 8th.

Beautiful people of Coastal Georgia and the Low Country will have the opportunity to be seen by the director of Halo Models & Talent Group, LLC of Savannah, as well as by agents from Elite Models, one of the most prestigious modeling agencies in the world.

The casting call is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Those with fresh faces and confidence to boot may win a call back for Saturday.

"The height for female models in this area is 5'8" and taller," said Stephanie Duke, Director of Halo Models. Minimum height requirement for male models is 5'11", according to Duke who explained there are height requirements because the models need to be able to fit into the designers' clothing without the pants needing to be hemmed, the sleeves needing shortening, etc.

"Most girls 13 and 14-years old aren't 5'8", but if they are, they are a diamond in the rough," said Duke with a smile.

Michelle Lynch, a fashion coordinator for Macy’s East Coast will assist Duke during Friday's selection process.  Those who make it through round one will return Saturday to meet with Victoria Duruh of Elite Models in Atlanta.

Each model hopeful will be critiqued in two different exercises. A portion of the interview will be in front of a video camera.  During that time, the talents will be asked to give their name, height, and some information about themselves.  The other portion of the casting call will require some walking on the runway.

"It's like any job, you have to start somewhere and work your way up," said Duke of modeling.  Fame and fortune usually does not happen overnight, even for the prettiest of people.  "You have to practice," said Duke.

The best models can convey a story in a single photograph. Some of the attitude needed to model is natural and some is learned.  "They have to be willing to listen to suggestions and be critiqued," said Duke.

More often the rule than the exception is photo shoots are long with the photographer capturing hundreds of shots. Models need the stamina to make the shoot "pop" from start to finish.

Editors usually love choices and the people who can give dozens of stellar shots often become highly-valued models.
