UGA fan and Savannah businessman, Matt Weeks, reminisces on Uga. "There's always the bark at kick-off, seeing him on those hot days laying on those bags of ice by the dog house.” These are special memories Georgia fans share, yet they ended too soon for some, with the untimely passing of Uga VII. The 4-year-old English bull dog died Thursday from an unknown heart problem.
Uga was cared for by Savannah's Sonny Seiler who told UGASports.com, "We are all in a state of shock...we had no warning whatsoever." His daughter Swann Seiler says, "We're just trying to get through the next couple of days. This is a tremendous shock to us. This dog was a part of the family."
Many local UGA fans shared theses emotions, including local businesses. Fox and Weeks Funeral Home came up with their own way of helping the everyone cope. They're providing a memorial book honoring Uga that anyone can sign.
Steven Weeks is a UGA alum, and part owner of Fox and Weeks Funeral home. He and his partners started this tradition at Uga VI’s passing -- less than two years ago. He says, "We just thought that that was a way we could give people in Savannah the chance to express their grief in the passing of Uga.
In a few days the book will be presented to the Sielers, who say they appreciate this outpouring of love and support from Savannahians.
Uga's final appearance was at Saturday night's game against Auburn. A wreath will cover his doghouse at this Saturday’s game against Kentucky.
