Savannah Squares Receive Honor
Savannah claims another prestigious honor.

The 22 Savannah squares have been designated as one of America's 10 Great Public Spaces. Mayor Otis Johnson accepted the award Wednesday from the American Planning Association.

The recent reconstruction of Ellis Square is one of the reasons the city earned the title. "You can only have one mayor at a time and I'll tell you, it's a great feeling to know that this city is being recognized all across the country and around the world for the preservation efforts that have gone on," said Mayor Otis Johnson.

Ellis Square is one of the four original squares designed by General James Oglethorpe.
