100 degrees was the high temperature Friday in Savannah, but it didn't feel that "cool". When you combine very high humidity it felt more like 115. The hot weather didn't stop there, Vidalia reached 104, Beaufort made it to 100 with heat indices topping out at 116, and Midway reached 101 with a heat index of 118. This hot weather was brutal, but some much needed relief is in store for the weekend. Temperatures will be down, as a result of a onshore wind, and more thunderstorms. A cold front is slowly approaching from the north and will eventually stall out around the Savannah River. With the front in place moisture will be abundant and our atmosphere will be more unstable. Look for more widespread storms to form by Saturday afternoon after a partly cloudy start. Some of those storms could be quite strong, with a lot of lightning and very heavy rain. With little winds aloft, storms will be slow moving and thus able to dump a lot of rain over the same areas. Saturday night, an upper air disturbance will be moving in and enhancing lifting motion in the atmosphere causing the storms to linger in to the overnight hours. Sunday will be one of the coolest days we have seen in quite some time! An earlier start to the rain and storms Sunday afternoon around 2pm will keep temps to around a high of 92. A ridge of high pressure will then build in from the west bringing our rain chances down for the first part of the work week and keep our temperatures around seasonal averages.
The Bottom Line
More mild and wet weather in store for the weekend.
