Georgia Southern University Football will have six games televised live during the upcoming 2008 season. The announcement was officially made on Tuesday (July 1) by Georgia Southern Athletics Director Sam Baker.
For the fourth straight year Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast will partner with Georgia Southern University to broadcast three games at Paulson Stadium. SportSouth will also broadcast two games as part of the Southern Conference's television package. The Eagles open the 2008 season at the
University
of
Georgia
, a game to be broadcast Pay Per View with kickoff at 12:30 p.m. More details on the Pay Per View package will be announced at a later date.
The two remaining home games not televised (September 6 vs. Austin Peay and September 13 vs. Northeastern) will be part of the Eagle Vision subscription package through the www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com website. Fans can join Eagle Vision and catch all the exciting action of Eagle Athletics live via the internet.
CSS reaches 5.8 million households across 12 states. SportSouth reaches more than nine million cable and satellite homes across a six-state region comprised of Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and regions of central and western North Carolina. The SoCon has an eight-game television package with SportSouth this season.
Southern will have consecutive home games against Southern Conference competition televised on CSS. The September 20 game against Elon and September 27 contest versus Wofford are scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. On November 8,
Southern renews its rivalry with the league's newest member, Samford. Kickoff on CSS is scheduled for 12 noon.
Once again the Eagles will have their game against Appalachian State and Furman televised. Both games will be shown on SportSouth, kickoff at 3 p.m.
"We are extremely excited to have more than half of our 2008 football schedule televised. Every time a
Southern football game is on the air we benefit from the exposure," said Baker. "Potential recruits can see the excitement surrounding our football team and head coach Chris Hatcher. Television provides an invaluable recruiting tool and also an opportunity for our alumni and fans living outside the Coastal Empire to remain connected with the Eagles. We look forward to hosting tremendous crowds at Paulson Stadium this fall, showcasing the 'Prettiest Little Stadium in
'."
