It’s true…. Southern hospitality is alive and well along the Coastal Empire! Born and raised in Ohio, I couldn’t be happier to call the Coastal Empire my new home. I joined the WJCL/FOX28 news team as military correspondent and general assignment reporter in June 2008. I’m honored to be part of such a disciplined and aggressive news team. Before joining this team I reported at the ABC Owned & Operated station in Toledo, Ohio. My first military related story caught national attention. I broke the story when Toledo, Ohio’s mayor forced training Marines to take their urban training drills elsewhere, causing first a local uproar, and then national anger from military supporters after they’d seen it on CNN. My first job in television news, however, was as an Assignment Editor at WTVG 13ABC. Although I’ve wanted to be a reporter for as long as I can remember, working as an Assignment Editor was valuable experience. Working behind the scenes (digging for stories, information, and then setting up interviews) provided me with extra skills that I believe make me a better reporter today. I took that job after graduating from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, where I majored in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Political Science. While a student at Ohio University, I both anchored and reported for WOUB News, a station serving Southeast Ohio. I believe the only way to survive life is by working hard and laughing your way through your mistakes, while learning from them. When I’m not working hard at WJCL/FOX28, I most look forward to spending time with my fiancé, Nick, who is a marine based on Parris Island, and exploring the Low Country. I love telling stories and want to tell yours, so if you have ANY story ideas, or just want to say “hi” please send me an email at aolmstead@wjcl.com
